We are seeking a motivated Assistant Shop Manager to join our trading team. In this role, you will act as an ambassador for Cancer Research UK, working alongside the Shop Manager and the wider team to maximise income through effective use of people, resources, and stock.
You’ll be part of a dedicated team all united by the goal of beating cancer.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Shop Manager in guiding, inspiring, and engaging a diverse team of paid staff and volunteers.
- Assist with the commercial operations of the store, including display and merchandising, stock management, maintaining shop standards, store layout, sales, and income.
- Lead by example, delivering excellent customer and supporter service.
- Collaborate with the Shop Manager to achieve key targets related to donated stock, cash, gift aid, average selling price, sell-through rates, and stock processing.
- Build and maintain relationships within the local community and with other Cancer Research UK colleagues.
- Work with the Shop Manager to organise and execute creative fundraising events in-store to meet fundraising targets.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety, safeguarding, security, administration, and HR policies.
- Deputise for the Shop Manager during their absence.
- Perform manual handling and physical activities as part of the daily responsibilities.

- Experience working in a dynamic and vibrant environment.
- Adaptability to handle changing situations and the ability to work effectively independently.
- Commercial awareness and understanding of retail operations.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Flexibility to work on a rota basis to meet the store’s needs, while respecting work-life balance.
