Cancer Research UK is the world’s biggest independent cancer research organisation. It was founded on February 4, 2002, by the merging of The Cancer Research Campaign and the Imperial Cancer Research Fund. It is a registered charity in the United Kingdom and the Isle of Man. Cancer Research UK conducts research using its own personnel and grant-funded researchers. It also distributes cancer-related information and undertakes initiatives to raise awareness and influence public policy.
The public funds practically all of the organisation’s activity. It raises funds through gifts, bequests, community fundraisers, events, retail, and corporate collaborations. More than 25,000 people are frequent volunteers.
