Medical Engineering Services at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is recruiting a highly skilled and experienced Senior Specialist Medical Equipment Informatics Technologist. The post carries specific core areas of responsibility while also requiring cover across other areas of expertise, working both autonomously and as part of a team. The role involves commissioning, calibrating, diagnosing, maintaining and repairing a broad range of complex and specialised equipment including anaesthesia, life support, patient monitoring, therapy, diagnostic, ventilation and ultrasound systems, some of it patient-connected. The post holder takes the lead on decision-making regarding equipment repair and customer liaison, provides a high level of technical and IT support, and delivers competence-based training to clinical staff as required by external auditing bodies. Main duties include ensuring compliance with all service process requirements across purchasing, receiving, manufacture, verification maintenance and IT compliance, plus commissioning, calibration, safety checks, repair, maintenance, manufacturer-approved adaptation and safe end-of-life disposal of medical equipment. Essential requirements include a BSc/BEng or HNC/HND/Foundation Degree in an appropriate engineering subject with substantial CPD, evidence of IT knowledge, supervisory experience and five years in a medical equipment service environment. The service will relocate to The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in 2028 as part of the Hospital Transformation Programme.
