Midwife (Community) Job Vacancy at NHS

Midwife (Community)

Employer: University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust
Closing Date: 31 March 2025

Job Summary

Are you a Registered Midwife? If so, we want to hear from you! We currently have several exciting opportunities available within our Maternity Services for Band 6 Midwives.

We are seeking passionate, motivated, and compassionate individuals to join our incredible team. These opportunities are specifically available within our Community Midwifery Services, offering a chance to deliver exceptional care and make a real difference in the lives of women, babies, and families.

Main Duties of the Role

Our maternity services place the woman, baby, and family at the core of everything we do. Operating as a consultant-led unit with a designated midwifery-led care area within our delivery suites, we deliver care to a diverse population that includes complex medical and social needs.

We collaborate with a team of Specialist Midwives and offer care across multiple sites:

  • Consultant-led units at Derby and Burton on Trent.
  • An alongside birth centre at Derby.
  • A freestanding birth centre at Lichfield.

Our Community Midwifery teams operate on a GP caseload basis, providing antenatal and postnatal care while also supporting a dedicated home birth service. We welcome candidates who prefer working exclusively in the community or wish to explore dual-contract options between community and acute midwifery services.

Additionally, our Continuity of Carer teams deliver comprehensive care, spanning antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal stages for women.

Candidates are required to hold a full UK driving licence, and this must be clearly stated in the application.

We encourage prospective applicants to arrange a visit to our Maternity Unit to learn more about the available opportunities. An extensive induction programme is provided to ensure a smooth transition into our team and services.

About Us

At University Hospitals of Derby and Burton (UHDB), we deliver approximately 9,000 births annually across two main sites:

  • Royal Derby Hospital (RDH)

We provide antenatal and postnatal care for over 11,500 women each year, with RDH offering an alongside birth centre. Our care pathways cover low-risk and high-risk pregnancies, including specialised care for conditions such as diabetes and cardiology.

Our staff are known for their kindness, compassion, and commitment to delivering exceptional care. With a recent £5.4 million investment in our maternity services, we are embarking on an exciting phase of growth and improvement. This funding allows us to enhance our workforce, upgrade technology, and refine processes, ensuring we deliver the highest quality care for women and their families.
