Are you ready to play a vital role in ensuring smooth supply chain operations and keeping our teams on track?
We’re seeking an organised and proactive Procurement Clerk to become part of the Stores Team at our Neville Hill TrainCare Centre (TCC). If you thrive in fast-paced environments, have exceptional attention to detail, and enjoy working behind the scenes to ensure everything runs like clockwork, this role could be your perfect fit!
At Northern, we’re more than just about trains—we’re about connecting communities, delivering reliable services, and creating positive impacts across the North. Behind the scenes, our dedicated teams keep over 2,000 services running daily—and we want you to join us!
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Managing Procurement and Materials: Raising purchase orders for suppliers and supporting Northern Engineering to ensure all necessary materials are sourced efficiently.
- Ensuring Timely Deliveries: Coordinating with suppliers and internal teams to ensure orders are processed, delivered, and receipted on time to meet engineering needs.
- Supporting the Supply Chain: Sourcing materials and handling administrative tasks to maintain a smooth supply chain, ensuring best value for Northern.
- Driving Efficiency: Using Inventory Management Systems like SAP and COUPA, and transitioning to Maximo, to ensure stock control processes are streamlined and efficient.
What We’re Looking For:
- Detail-Oriented: You can manage multiple tasks without compromising accuracy. Strong organisational skills are a must for success in this role.
- Tech-Savvy: Familiarity with systems like SAP, COUPA, or other inventory/procurement tools, with a willingness to learn Maximo as we transition.
- Strong Communicator: You work effectively with internal teams and suppliers to ensure smooth operations. You balance autonomy with teamwork, keeping Northern Engineering’s needs as your priority.
- Customer-Focused: Naturally driven to provide Northern Engineering with efficient and timely procurement support.
- Experienced: Prior experience in a stores or supply chain environment is preferred but not essential. A positive attitude and eagerness to learn can make you stand out. Experience with traction and rolling stock materials would be advantageous but is not required.
As this is an office-based role located at the TCC, you’ll also attend a Depot Safety Course to familiarize yourself with safety protocols and be fully prepared to navigate the operational environment.
Our Values:
Make a difference. Make it last. Make it yours. Make it easy. Make it happen.
These values guide everything we do—and they could guide you too!
What’s in It for You?
- Free Travel: Complimentary travel on all Northern services.
- Pension Scheme: A defined benefit pension scheme with 1.5x employer contributions.
- Travel Discounts: 75% off with other Train Operating Companies across the UK and Europe (after one year of service).
